Do you know Scaly Mountain?
I live in Western NC at 4000 feet elevation on Scaly Mountain outside of Highlands, NC in Macon County. I have a great view of mountains and lakes from my deck. I am surrounded by USFS on acreage which affords me great privacy. Scaly is a pastoral, affordable community with lake, creek, and mountain views, yet convenient to Highalands,NC and Clayton, GA. We have a famous tubing run and a great General Store.
